Our Story
Present News was created to raise awareness about hate crimes through unbiased storytelling while simultaneously shedding light on various cultures. Modern day has witnessed an exponential increase in the number of hate crimes that are solely based on something that is a part of who we are. Our goal is to uncover the facts to promote awareness and prevent future victims. People's voices need to be heard, and Present News strives to be that medium through which people can express themselves.

Through this magazine, we also want to connect passionate young individuals and give them a platform to grow as journalists and as young leaders.

About the Founder
Present News is an online student-run magazine founded by Jiayue Zou. Zou first engaged in journalism in the eighth grade, and it soon propelled her on a path that drew out her curiosity in humanity and embedded issues in school and in the larger context of the nation. She wanted to direct that passion into creating real impact in her community—something that hit close to home. She had noticed there was a rise in anti-Asian activity around her; as an Asian American herself, she wanted to assist the community that had always made her feel at home. She decided to use her skills in journalism to not only promote awareness against Asian American hate but also hate targeted at any individual for being who they are. Present News was created with the hope of bringing about change and inspiring others to do the same.
